Skimming the channels full of re-runs due to the writer's strike and old made for TV movies, channel 13, Colgate University Television, is a refreshing change of pace.
Constantly streaming awesome movies, live performances from around Colgate and all the Raider sports action a student could wish for, CUTV keeps the student body entertained and up to date, thanks in large part to Brian White.
White has been working at the station since his sophomore year. Originally a sports talk show host for WRCU, he became involved with CUTV when the hockey game broadcasts where canceled.
An avid hockey fan and player, White couldn't let the powers that be cancel his sports' broadcasts. After meeting with the board of trustees and the Athletic Department, White was able to convince them to resumé broadcastings and joined the CUTV team as an announcer.
Soon White was revamping all of CUTV with new technology left and right, starting with the web streaming of all Colgate sports games so that alumni, students abroad and other Raider sports fans could stay up to date with their favorite teams.
"My drive is to never be lazy," White said. "Whenever I catch myself just sitting around I get up and find something to do."
Last year, he aided in making some even more needed changes to the station.
"We pretty much rebuilt the station," White explained. "We basically gutted it and started new with updated cameras and equipment. It's good to know that present and incoming students will have the most up to date technology in the years to come thanks to our work this and last year."
White's involvement doesn't stop there. He is not only the General Manager of CUTV but also plays cello and is the President of Orchestra. White plays intramural Ice Hockey and is involved with Konosioni.
White does have an academic life at Colgate, too. He is a Geology major, and his work with the Geology department has taken him to the Rockies, Ecuador and Icleand.
White has a sense of humor, as well.
"My only regret over the past four years here at Colgate is that I didn't have more time for school work," White joked.
