As our last column of the semester, there is much progress for us to share as well as accomplishments for us to reflect upon.  After serving the SGA during the new constitution's first semester, we can confidently say that it is a success. It has allowed us to put time and energy on the issues where we can effect the most positive change for students on campus. We are grateful for the entire SGA Leadership that has adapted so quickly to the new constitution and have helped us be successful in this time of transition.

When we ran for office in March and April, we promised to begin a new era of student government at Colgate that would take on issues both small and large with a focus on real results. As you may know, we began the year with an enormous victory: the reinstatement of the campus-wide subscription to the New York Times. We were happy to partner with the University in restoring this important program for students.

As promised in our campaign, we took on dining services, fitness space, technology, and the environment as our main policy issues.  With the help of Matt Muskin '10, Safwan Shabab '10, Mike Schneider '10, and Nicole Svajlenka '08, we have made enormous progress in these areas and are in a position to further effect change next semester. Some examples of the achievements are: Sodexho will be offering a continental breakfast in the Edge next semester, there is a Satellite Fitness Center Working Group studying options for building on campus, SGA has partnered with ITS to expand Colgate Gmail to all students by the end of the academic year, and we are undertaking seven major environmental initiatives in partnership with the University.  We hope you are pleased with the SGA's progress and look forward to working with all students to continue to improve the Colgate Experience next semester.

In closing, there are three members of the SGA Leadership who are going abroad next semester that deserve our sincere thanks.  David Kerschner '09 served a very successful semester as Liaison to Student Organizations and Grafton Connor '09 effectively ushered in the new SGA Constitution as Parliamentarian.

Additionally, David Kusnetz '09 served as the first Speaker of the Senate that the Colgate SGA has ever had.  David was a particular pleasure to work with on issues such as the campus-wide New York Times subscription and dining services reforms. He set a precedent of professionalism and productivity that we hope will be followed for years to come.
