Music
John Yao
John Yao fully embraced the arts at Colgate. He concentrated in Music and minored in Art and Art History. Yao is a gifted performer. He has been a part of the Wind Ensemble, the Pep Band and the University Orchestra. Yao also was the conductor for the SMuTCo production of Man of La Mancha. Being a part of the Pep Band was Yao's favorite. After Colgate, Yao plans to attend graduate school for music. Yao would like to teach music in a university like Colgate.
Brian Hinrichs
Brian Hinrichs has been actively involved in many aspects of the musical community at Colgate. A talented cello player, Hinrichs has played for the Colgate Chamber Players, Cello Choir and Orchestra. Hinrichs won a concerto competition and was able to perform as a soloist with the University Orchestra. This summer, Hinrichs will be interning at the Glimmerglass Opera in Cooperstown, New York. He will then move to Thailand, where he will be teaching English. Eventually, Hinrichs sees himself running his own music festival.
Theater
Dani Nolan
Dani Nolan had been involved in theater at Colgate in every way possible. She is a theater concentrator, is on the board of Masque and Triangle, and has directed and acted in productions of University Theater and SMuTCo. Nolan's two biggest accomplishments in terms of Colgate theater were adapting and directing the play I Am Not Alone, and performing a lead role in the play Rumor right after being diagnosed with mononucleosis. After graduation, Nolan is going to find work as a paralegal, with an eye towards attending law school in a few years.
Studio Arts
Nate Johnson
Nate Johnson's work in studio art stands out among the class of 2007. Most of Johnson's work was independent. He credits small details from everyday life as his main inspiration for his creative accomplisments. Classes at Colgate helped Johnson apply his creativity and the feedback he recieved from professors helped him shape his art. After graduation, Johnson is considering a career in graphic design, which would allow him to apply his artistic ability to a business setting.
Dance
Grace Buckley
Aptly named, Grace Buckley has lit up the stage at Dancefest for the past four years. Buckley has had extensive training in ballet and other forms of dance. Before coming to Colgate, Buckley debated whether or not to explore professional dancing instead of attending college. Buckley is a member of Kuumba and the captain of Groove. Although she majored in political science, Buckley is considering moving to New York City to pursue professional dance after graduation.
