Hello Colgate. This week, I am responding to some questions that have been posed to me in my conversations with some students around campus.

The Cruiser is one of the most important parts of campus life and is important to most students at some point in their week. Whether students are getting a ride to class or getting a ride downtown, they rely on the Cruiser to be on time and available to them at the times listed on the schedule. This has been a major concern for many students and is being addressed as we speak. I have met with necessary campus officials to revamp the Cruiser schedule and to add covered stops around campus. We are looking at increasing the amount of runs focusing on certain routes during peak hours.

As many of you know the Diversity Report has come out and preliminary conversations are occurring throughout campus. I urge all of you to get involved in discussions on how to improve all forms of diversity throughout campus. I am going to be compiling a list of names of interested students and sending them to the administration so that we can start working on improving and implementing the goals of the Diversity Report. My goal is that we have students from various backgrounds getting involved in the discussions so that we can create a final product that meets the needs of every student. Your thoughts and opinions on the issues presented can play an integral role in assisting the administration to implement their ideas properly.

The Core Curriculum is a big part of the Colgate experience and the administration, faculty and the SGA want to improve it so that it meets more of your needs. We are looking into incorporating more "life skills" into the Core Curriculum. Senate had a discussion on the topic and discussed ways to improve the existing system. We are still in the infant phase of conversation on the topic and are looking for more input from students. There will be more information about this in the future.
The Portal is 90 percent up and within a few days the entire campus will have the ability to use the portal to find out what the SGA does. The Portal will be the best and most accessible forum for all of you to express your concerns so that every SGA member will be aware of your thoughts. This not only increases communication but also allows us to understand what issues are the most popular. Soon we will be using the Portal to start polling the student body about important issues. The first poll is already up and can be seen on your homepage after logging in. It asks important questions about study spaces on campus and is very important for Senate and the administration. The information gathered will be used to advise the administration on how to accommodate students in 2005-2006 when the library is closed. Please take this survey because it will greatly impact some of the decisions made about the future of study areas on campus. The second will be about the swim test and for you to inform me about your thoughts on whether or not we should keep it. This has been an ongoing conversation for many years and I want to get your input before we pass our suggestions on to the faculty.

I hope that you all feel a little more informed and that you make an effort to go to the portal and take the survey. I also hope that you e-mail me if you have any questions/concerns/comments that are relevant to the statements that were made above. If you have any comments on the Cruiser, want to be a part of the Diversity Council discussion or have trouble with anything else please email me at ramandcasey@mail.colgate.edu.

Thank you very much and have a wonderful break.
