Homecoming weekend was a blast! As if the bonfire, the pep rally and tailgating with hundreds of visiting alumni weren't enough -- the football team continued their strong season with a win over Bucknell! The weekend was an excellent example of how the Colgate spirit can hold us together as a community and allow for opportunities to share in celebration of our successes.
Colgate's Board of Trustees was one of the many groups of alumni visiting this weekend to celebrate Colgate's win and also to conduct some business. The SGA Leadership was able to enjoy dinner with the Trustees during their visit and share our ideas for Colgate's future with those who determine it. We had constructive and meaningful conversations on a wide variety of topics including the quality of food on campus, the new Institute for Politics, Philosophy and Economics, and the potential construction of new fitness space on campus.
As the mid-term approaches, all know that our jacket-less, snow-free days are limited. We have a few tips for all students to enjoy the Colgate campus before it becomes difficult to find your car because it looks like just another snow bank. One tip that we don't have to share with our friends on the crew or sailing teams is to take a boat out on Lake Moraine. Colgate has excellent facilities at Glendening Boathouse, including sailboats, canoes, and kayaks that make a great house bonding activity or a great first date.
Enjoying Colgate while its warm out is also about taking some time for ourselves and slowing down enough to look around and realize how lucky we are just to be here. If you are someone who likes to have some time alone to clear your head, think about taking a jog on the fitness trails or a bike through town using one of the Green Bikes provided through Outdoor Education. If you would rather enjoy the outdoors with a group, we recommend utilizing the highly-rated Seven Oaks Golf Course or picking up some food downtown and walking over to the benches by Taylor Lake for a picnic. For any of these activities, allow plenty of time because once you start relaxing and enjoying the outdoors, it's hard to stop!
