Men’s Hockey Sweeps Union and R.P.I.

This past weekend was arguably the most successful one for the Colgate men’s hockey team throughout the regular season. On Friday night, the Raiders completed a series sweep of Rensselaer with a 3-2 victory. The triumph, along with St. Lawrence’s loss to Dartmouth, helped Colgate clinch fourth place in the ECAC and gave them the right to host a quarterfinal series for the first time since the 2005-2006 season. The following night the Raiders completed their second weekend sweep of the year by beating No. 15 Union, 5-2. Full story

The Show Must Go On: University Orchestra Performs Despite Setback

It’s not often that Colgate students choose to listen to classical music, but on Sunday, February 28, the entire campus had the opportunity to do just that when the Colgate University Orchestra performed in the Colgate Memorial Chapel. With its first piece conducted by Colgate senior Michael Petersen and the second by Professor of Music and Conductor of the Colgate University Orchestra, Marietta Cheng, the Orchestra’s menagerie of students, community members and professional musicians entertained the audience with their technique and own enjoyment of the music. Law Professor Uncovers Today’s Rights Movement

Keeping Martin Luther King’s proverbial dream alive is often a fleeting, one-day affair, but sometimes, we do indeed wake up and carry on the conversation. On Wednesday, February 24, Chief Justice Earl Warren Professor of Constitutional Law at New York University School of Law and human rights activist-author Kenji Yoshino visited Colgate to meet with students and faculty and discuss the current and future states of civil rights in the United States.

Colgate Announces Renovations

Last week, Colgate University announced that three buildings will be renovated within the next year. The announcement described that, in addition to the new fitness center that will be built, Lathrop Hall, Watson House and the Colgate Inn are all in need of maintenance and will be updated in the coming years.

In The Light: Annie Ben-Ami

A capella is not as easy as it looks – the pitch is based entirely off one another and there are no instruments besides the human voice. For senior Annie Ben-Ami, however, it comes almost naturally. Ben-Ami is the musical leader of the Swinging Gates, Colgate’s all-female a capella group. She runs practice, maintains sound and is “the one who waves their hand around.”

Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Dartmouth; Earns Victory over Vermont

The men’s lacrosse team split their last two games, dropping their home opener to Dartmouth, 7-3, last Saturday on a snowy Tyler’s Field. However, they were able to bounce back and defeat the Vermont Catamounts, 11-10, on Tuesday to get their first win of the year.

Men’s Basketball Loses 73-65 to Lafayette in PLT

The Colgate men’s basketball team’s season ended with a 73-65 loss to Lafayette in the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Tournament last night, March 3. Lafayette guard Jim Mower scored 19 points on 6-11 shooting, including four three-pointers. Leopards forward Ryan Willen had 14 points and six boards. The Leopards used deft passing (21 assists) and knocked down the open shot all night, making ten three-pointers as a team and shooting just under 50 percent from the field. Sophomore forward Yaw Gyawu, first-year guard Mitch Rolls and senior guard Kyle Roemer each scored 15. Sophomore center Nick Pascale had eight points and nine rebounds. Senior forward Ben Jonson had just four points after getting into foul trouble in the first half.
